Mission Statement:

At White Forest Nursery, our mission is simple: to help people in Bakersfield and Kern County create and maintain beautiful gardens and landscapes they can be proud of.

Our Story

In 1965, John and Janice White opened the gates to White Forest Nursery with nothing more than a yard full of plants and a canvas tent. John’s background as a California Agricultural Inspector and his horticulture degree from UC Berkeley gave him the expertise to supply high-quality plants to the Bakersfield area. More importantly, he shared his knowledge generously, helping customers succeed in their own gardens.

That tradition of pairing a wide selection of plants with expert advice has been carried on for decades by John’s son, Jere White, and his wife, Rita. Together, they’ve ensured that White Forest Nursery remains Kern County’s trusted source for plants, trees, and gardening expertise.

Generations of Knowledge

Jere White, with a master’s degree in biology from Stanford University and over 55 years of experience in the nursery and horticultural industries, continues the family’s legacy. Alongside Rita, he has built a team of some of the most knowledgeable nursery professionals in the county. Whether you’re choosing the right shade tree, selecting fruit trees for your backyard orchard, or planting seasonal color, our staff is here to make sure you succeed at home.
